1.1“You’re fortunate, mendicants, so very fortunate, 1.2to have the opportunity to live the spiritual life. 1.3I’ve seen the hell called ‘the six fields of contact’. 1.4There, whatever sight you see with your eye is unlikable, not likable; undesirable, not desirable; unpleasant, not pleasant.

1.5Whatever sound you hear …

1.6Whatever odor you smell …

1.7Whatever flavor you taste …

1.8Whatever touch you feel …

1.9Whatever thought you know with your mind is unlikable, not likable; undesirable, not desirable; unpleasant, not pleasant. 1.10You’re fortunate, mendicants, so very fortunate, 1.11to have the opportunity to live the spiritual life. 1.12I’ve seen the heaven called ‘the six fields of contact’. 1.13There, whatever sight you see with your eye is likable, not unlikable; desirable, not undesirable; pleasant, not unpleasant.

1.14Whatever sound … odor … flavor … touch …

1.15Whatever thought you know with your mind is likable, not unlikable; desirable, not undesirable; pleasant, not unpleasant. 1.16You’re fortunate, mendicants, so very fortunate, 1.17to have the opportunity to live the spiritual life.”
